Here we are about 2 weeks after the finish of kitchen-new. Most of the punch list has been attended to, except for our swinging door that will be between the dining room and the kitchen, the fixing of the LED light on our sink faucet (yes, George the Elder found that little gem. I guess it's important for doing dishes in the dark??), and the glass in the upper cabinets on the stove wall will be changed out with ribbed glass to match the back door and soon-to-be-hung kitchen/dining door.
I'm still working on putting in the drawer organizers, some were back ordered, some were mis-ordered and some were simply not ordered - - but I'm getting there. My spices are now alphabetized and at least I've got that going for me. And yes, I said alphabetized. You can laugh, but when you're in a hurry looking for oregano - - it's nice to just be able to scan past all those pesky C's - - you know curry, cinnamon and cloves.
I promised some photos of the kitchen-new with our stuff in it - - and today you get those, PLUS an added photo stream of things "behind the doors." I promised this to my sister today, so you all get to snoop as well. Do. Not. Judge. Just because I have capri sun in my cupboards, doesn't make me a bad person....

I've a feeling that junk will fill them shortly! Far left is a little door that covers the electrical outlet and a port to plug in your computer. |

Left side. Can I tell you how much I appeciate having all of our plates and bowls in drawers? Plus, they're right across from the dishwasher, so once you're bended down to start unloading the clean dishes, you just move them across the way to their rightful location. It's a little chunk of organizational heaven...

And that is it for the kitchen-new. Pleased it's done, still need to find the right pendants, and I love cooking in it. I didn't say I loved cooking per se, but if I've got to do it - - the place is a real dream to do it in. Go us!

Hi, Wendy! I hate to admit it, but I’m envious about your kitchen. It is so beautiful. What I love the most, though, is your window above the sink. It gives enough light, which brightens up the room. So lovely! I bet some valances or draperies will make it even lovelier!

hello, just found your blog and thanks for all the photos - your kitchen looks great! I am patiently waiting for my own henrybuilt kitchen. I, also, will have an island with a bar block. I was wondering if you could let me know how your island and bar block are working out for you. Specifically, (1) what are the overall dimensions of island? bar block?
(2) on the "bar" side where your stools are located, how many inches is your overhang? Is it comfortable to sit at? (ie. do your knees hit the underside?).

You're going to love your Henrybuilt kitchen.
Our island is total of 60" wide. The counter is 33 1/2 inches before it meets the front of the bar block. The block itself is 14 7/8 inches, so half of that is mounted on to the counter and the other half overhangs.
We don't hit our knees, but then we weren't expecting a "tuck under" experience there. We had the bookshelves added under there, and the only caveat I would add is that I don't put anything valuable that's made of glass on the shelf where feet might swing. Our family is old enough that it's no a worry for us, but if you had young children sitting there, you might have issues with the shelves there. If the back of the island is solid, you don't have any worries.
We got 30" barstools to sit under - - low profile emeco, so they don't stick out a great deal.

Hi there - love your kitchen. We are working w/ HB right now for our MCM Eichler kitchen. To Bar Block or not to Bar Block. That is the question. We spec'd out an L-shaped walnut slab raised "bar" on the island for breakfast or homework. Then we saw the HB Bar Block. We love the idea, the look, the storage; however, we are concerned that 7 1/2" will be comfortable for very long and that it's more suited for standing and serving. It's super cool and looks beautiful. After 3 years, do you still love it for sitting as well as for storage/serving? Thank you!
